“Icherisheher” is the first station of the Red Line. It was commissioned as the starting station of “Baki Soveti-Nariman Narimanov”. According to the construction project, the main focus in the design of the station was the victory of the Soviet Rule in the republic and the praise of the achievements of the republic during the Soviet Rule. It consisted of a cashier's hall in an above-ground lobby and a dome. The front and side facades of the cashier's hall were made of stained glass, the back wall and columns were coated with white and black marble, and the floor made of black granite.
The walls of the middle hall and passenger platforms were decorated with the "Kazgan" marble of Central Asia, which is distinctive with its pink and white-gray hues, and the floors were coated with patterned red granite. The marbles on the wall were engraved with drawings of achievements of Azerbaijan during the Soviet rule (oil wells, cotton bolls, etc.).
A two-meter copper bas-relief with a statue of V.I. Lenin was hung on the main frontal wall of the middle hall. In 1993, this bas-relief statue was replaced with a plaster bas-relief statue of a woman dressed in a national costume, with her one hand warding off "evil” forces, while the other holding "good" forces. Three LT type escalators with a lifting height of 45 m were installed at the station's escalator ramp By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 25, 2007, "Baki Soveti" station was renamed "Icherisheher", followed by the reconstruction as per the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 24, 2008. After the reconstruction was over, the station was inaugurated with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva on December 29 of the same year.
After the reconstruction, the entrance to the station has the shape of a pyramid. The construction is made of metal and transparent glass. The exterior height of the upper lobby is 14 meters, just as high as the fortress walls of Icheri Sheher (Old City). The station's old LT type escalators were replaced with Victoria escalators manufactured by "ThyssenKrupp", Germany and put into operation on September 15, 2009.
Made in France, 16 panoramic views of the old Baku are placed in the middle hall of the platform and on the walls of both platforms. A fragment of sculpture representing the fortress wall of Icheri Sheher was erected at the end of the middle hall of the platform, with the word "Icherisheher" engraved on it. The station has only one exit, which leads to "Istiglaliyyet" street.
A fragment from the piece of music "Baku’s nights", composed by Alekber Tagiyev, is played on the trains arriving at the station.

Sahil
Opened 6 November 1967
Commissioning date: | November 6, 1967. |
Address: | Bulbul avenue 10. |
Original project name: | “Communist”. |
Previous name: | “26 Baku Commissars” (until April 9, 1992). |
Construction profile: | single exit, deep-level, three arched ceilings, two rows, eight pylons. |
Length of tracks: | 100 m. |
Architect: | A.S.Surkin. |
It is one of the first 5 stations opened in the "Baki Soveti - Nariman Narimanov" area. Since its original name was “26 Baku Commissars,” this theme was central in the construction of the station. The pylons of the station were covered with mosaics made of metal and crystal glass. The soffit lighting of the middle hall was particularly impressive in this regard. The fluorescent lighting fixtures on the station tracks were placed over the pylons inside a wavy construction, giving a gentle wave effect.
In 1993, mosaic panels titled “Marine boards” were hung into ceiling of the semi-circular hall. The boards depicted the sun setting over the sea.
The upper lobby of the dome is one of the two stations located on the first floor of the building above the ground. It is the only station of the Baku Metro with a shopping center built over it.
The ceiling above the sloping course was reconstructed in 2003.
Supplying the station with electricity, the substation was reconstructed in 2015 at the state-of-the-art level of technology.
Until 2017, "LT-3"-type escalators were used at the station.
from August 21, 2017 to June 2018, reconstruction was carried to replace the 50-year-old escalators with new ones, following the assessment of the condition of the whole infrastructure by the competent authorities of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in particular, the specialists of the Institute for Scientific Research and Design-Construction Materials named after S.A. Dadashov. During the replacement of the escalators, the station with a single entrance and exit was closed for pasengers' entry and exit. After the removal of the three LT-3 escalators, four new "Victoria Tube" escalators, manufactured by Thyssen Krupp, Germany were installed at the station. With the features of deep-level stations taken into account, these escalators, designed with a number of engineering and technical innovations, were first used in Baku Metro. The use of four instead of three escalators has made it easier, safer and more convenient to regulate passengers’ traffic at a station, which has a single entrance and exit and higher passengers’ traffic.
When the old escalators were removed, the tunnel coat of the sloping course was inspected for and cleaned from corrosion, anti-leakage measures taken, the tunnel coat painted with special dyeing material to protect it against corrosion, and covered according to the station’s general architecture, with the sloping course illuminated.
Exposed to the severe hydrogeological circumstances of its geographical location, the station had the equipment and other infrastructure, which became obsolate as a result of many years of exploitation, thus not meeting modern requirements, was upgraded.
Anticorrosion and a number of reinforcement measures were taken at the platform and sub-platform levels, where hydrogeological effects are more active and the impact of natural air flow is minimal. The obsolete metal structures were reinforced with new metal sheets, in addition to the reinforcing of the station roads and track walls along the platform and anti-leakage measures implemented over the tunnel coat. The reinforced concrete floors and the floor coats of the passengers’ platform were upgraded. After the tunnel roofing, metal profiles and corroded reinforcing elements of the track walls were removed through a welding method, the leakages were halted, the tunnel coat painted with modern anti-corrosion substances, and new metal structures built. Besides, the lower part of the wall was coated with granite, and the surface with ceramic granite. A water-pumping facility on the track ceiling and in the mid hall was coated with a relevant layer.
Starting from the level of the collector beneath the platform,, the load-bearing walls were reinforced with metal meshes, the natural ventilation provided, the useless parts of the walls removed, new columns installed, new girth-rails laid along the load-bearing walls, and a new frame of reinforced concrete structure built. In the ground lobby of the station, the walls were renovated according to the modern requirements, and the fans, installed in accordance with the general architectural style, changed the aesthetic appearance of the lobby. A new lighting system, including a round-shaped modern chandelier has been built into the ceiling, thus completing the integrity of architectural design.
The equipment for traffic management, video surveillance, signaling and communication systems have been upgraded, the areas and rooms in which they are located have been adapted to new standards in accordance with the requirements of technical regulations. The centralized heating and cooling system of VRV type has been established to provide natural ventilation within norms and regulations and adjust the microclimate conditions in the service rooms to seasonal norms. "Sekamatik" tanks and "Varisko" pumps were installed for wastewater treatment. FHE-type pumps were built into the main and local water discharge equipment.
Until the reconstrcution, the station was famous only for one element - the panel at the end of the platform's middle hall. After the reconstruction, the station became an architectural example of the Metro with its unique style. According to the architectural theme of the work of Architect Jahangir Sadikhov, at the end of the middle hall on the platform, there is a sun-shape composition, along the entire wall, in place of the old panel. The light effects, reminiscent of the newly awakening sunshine, completes the composition of the station's overall lighting system along the ceiling. The granite coating of the floor and under the walls, and the ceramic granite coating of the walls add a special effect to this view with their color. The backlit lighting system behind the fans along the pylon, which are decorated with patterns of national carpet weaving, walls also contribute to the enriched architecture of the station. The lighting of the carpet-patterned fans covering the ceiling and pylon walls of the station also meet the ergonomic requirements of the waiting room. The layout of the station's name and indicators of direction on the black coating of the track walls are in harmony with the overall architectural landscape.
Following the capital repairs and reconstruction, the station was re-commissioned on June 7, 2018, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
A fragment from a song “Liman”, composed by Rashid Nasiboglu to Adil Nasib’s words, is played on the trains arriving at the station.

a change to "Jafar Jabbarli" station of the Green ("Khatai-Darnagul") line. |
It is one of the first five stations opened on the territory of “Baki Soveti-Nariman Narimanov”. Located near the central railway station of the capital city, it is the metro station, not only important for the Metro, but also a part of a significant transport network. It also stands out as an intersection of two important metro lines.
Given the above-mentioned, as well as its proximity to the downtown and important public, social and cultural centers, it is the underground station with the most passengers and is called the "gates of the city".
The previous name was given in honor of the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan. According to the project, it was built in a cohesive architectural ensemble with the railway station. On the facade of the station, in the cash office of the upper vestibule, was a metal-embossed sheet (“toreutics”) illustrating the evolution of transport - "History of transport” - from cart to rocket. On one side of the entrance arch were engraved three metallic hands shaking each other, and on the opposite side, the symbolic key of the city.
In the central hall, on the back wall was an image of the court of arms depicting sea waves and three torches over the city.
The station floor was covered with red granite embroidered in black element, creating an impression of a national carpet. Also, combined with the station's red and white granite floor coating, the tunnel walls of the pylon and the platform made of white and blue "Ufaley" marbles manufactured in Ural, created a tandem of vastness and simplicity.
After independence was gained, the station was renamed "28 May" in remembrance of the day of the establishment of the first democratic republic in the East, with appropriate design changes introduced.
In the mid hall, on the center of the wall towards the escalator was a moon and an octagonal star and a mosaic panel of minaret-dominated "boards of Icherisheher (The Inner City)" .
In the upper part of the circular middle hall (towards the change to “Jafar Jabbarli” station), on the edge of the octagonal star on the background of the three-colour Azerbaijani flag was the bas-relief of Muhammad Amin Rasulzadeh, one of the leaders of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, with his slogan "The flag, once raised, will never fall" on the surface.
In the middle hall, on the pylons were mosaic panels dedicated to the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan.
10 ceramic statues ("Soldiers of the National Army", "General of the artillery", "Mother and child", "Soldier Protecting oil wells", "Musavatists (equalists) reading a newspaper", "Turkish army soldiers" and saucers) were placed inside the wooden octagonal star, five to five on each track in between the panels. These octagonal stars were in harmony with the large octagonal stars (the number of these stars was 9 in the middle hall) which had remained on the floor since the inception.
The figures "1918-20" were engraved on one of the moon-star saucers, and the words "28 May" on the other. The panels were illuminated by a background light.
The ventilation ducts on the station's tracks towards the tunnel were covered with uninterrupted, separately-cast ornamental aluminum grates in between the pylons. The octagonal star also dominated among the ornaments of grates.
In 1993, with the opening of the "Jafar Jabbarly" station, a passageway between the two stations was commissioned. The asbestos ceiling over the three-lane escalator was reconstructed in 2003 and replaced with bright aluminum profiles. As per the state program, the expired LT-3 escalators were replaced with four "Victoria" escalators designed by "ThyssenKrupp", Germany for deep-level stations and commissioned on September 15, 2010.
On December 30, 2009, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the second 40-meter deep entrance and exit of the station was commissioned on Salatin Askerova Street, becoming the first deep-level station with two exits in the capital city.
In the vestibule of the second exit, built in a modern architectural style, three “ET-3M” escalators designed for deep-level stations are in use. The total length of the pedestrian tunnel leading to the station is 165 meters. Passengers can also move through this tunnel to arrive at “Jafar Jabbarli” station.
Reconstruction works at the station were launched in 2013. On May 5, 2015, the works were completed in the mid hall of the platform, with its ceiling and floor decorated with a pattern image based on national ornaments, thus creating an integrated composition. Bright lighting and new light-colored marble layers on the walls make this pattern even more impressive. The illuminated road signs have been installed on the station tracks. Walls and ventilation ducts have been designed in a new style.
The upper vestibule of the station has been designed in a completely new style, along with a new design for the entrance hall. Compared to the previous dome-shaped entry and exit, the new premise built above the station is 2 meters higher, making the station look spacious. Taking into account the future separation of the lines, another stairway has been laid to provide access from the exit of the station to the "Jafar Jabbarli" station. A new circular lighting system has been installed in the dome area of the vestibule. The location of the automatic checkpoint at the entrance has been moved forward to further increase the throughput of passengers.
In addition, the expansion of the entrance pavilion by 150 square meters provides a expedient flow of passengers from the front door to the ticket office.
A piece of national mugham "Karabakh shikestesi" is played on the trains arriving at the station.

Original project name: |
"Idman" (in russian - "Sportivnaya"). |
Authors of panels: |
R.Khalafov, Y.Polyushkin, Y.Sinyukov. |
Construction profile: |
shallow-level, 2 rows, 32 reinforced concrete columns, island type. |
Length of tracks: |
100 m. |
Architect: |
K.I. Senchikhin. |
It is one of the first 5 stations opened in the "Baki Soveti-Nariman Narimanov" area. The project name was "Idman" (in Russian - "Sportivnaya"), since the station is located near the large sports facilities, Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium, and the Academy of Physical Culture and Sports. When put into operation it was called "Ganjlik". According to the design, it corresponds to the "Kropotkinskaya" station of the Moscow Metro.
According to the original project name, the theme of sports and athletes played a major role in the design of the station. The walls of the ticket halls feature Florence mosaic panels of different colors, featuring sports and athletes ("goal-keeper who keeps the ball", "gymnast girls", "basketball boys and girls", "swimmer boys", etc.). In the second lobby, there is a five colored interlocking mosaic rings, which is a symbol of the Olympic movement.
The crossings on both ends of the station also serve as crossings to the streets surrounding "Galaba" Square at the intersection of the complex highway. The station has no ground lobby and escalators. The platform columns are made up of two parts. Their larger lower layers are made of marble, with adhesive white solution added to their core.
The column is arranged in such a way that the marble section ends in a "flower" shape. Another large "flower" opens on the trunk pointing upwards. The chandeliers are hidden in the lower "flower" and they illuminate the white body, as if the upper "flower" is flying in the sky. The upper “flower” smoothly sits into arched plain ceiling. The unity of this composition creates the effect of making the height of the columns appear shorter. In doing so, they deepen the view, as if taking a long way. Columns and flight decks are decorated with images typical of oriental architecture. The depictions of the caps and the road make an impression of a bit raised ceiling, making it look thinner and brighter.
Due to the commissioning of a new underground car tunnel complex on Ataturk Avenue - F. Khoyski and Vagif Avenues, which was commissioned in 2013, there were changes in the crossings of the station.
On the eve of the first European Games in Baku in 2015, the passages of the station were renovated in a new style in accordance with the overall composition, and the marble-granite coating of the walls and floor was changed. The renovated passage walls allow for various types of mass exhibitions and demonstrations. In July 2015, an exhibition of works by photographers was opened here. At the traditional "Photographer of the Year 2015" award ceremony held on January 23, 2016 at the International Mugam Center with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the exhibition was awarded the "Project of the Year" nomination.
An exit was built to the “Ganjlik Mall”, opened in 2016, from the nearest passage in the direction of Tofig Bakhramov Stadium.
A fragment from Khayyam Mirzazadeh's song "Oten Gunler" (another name - "Do you remember") is played on the trains entering the station.

Nariman Narimanov

It is the last of the first five stations opened on the territory of "Baki Soveti-Nariman Narimanov". Although the original name of the station was "Peter Montin" in memory of the revolutionary Peter Montin and the name of its location, the station was later named after Nariman Narimanov, who was a prominent politician and statesman, doctor, writer and playwright of Azerbaijan.
The station is also a junction that receives trains arriving at and departing from Red Line's "Narimanov" electric depot and "Bakmil" station.
The passageways at both ends of the station are intended both for the passengers and as a passage to the surrounding streets. The station has no ground lobby and escalators. The columns of the platform consist of two parts.
In 1994, the artistic design of the station dedicated to the revolutionist Nariman Narimanov underwent significant changes, and included the doctor, playwright and patriot images of this distinguished personality.
On the ceiling wall of the staircase leading from the cashier's hall to the platform, there is a mosaic panel - "Nariman Narimanov - a doctor" - with Nariman Narimanov's portrait and the expression "Health of people is the most valuable treasure of the state". On the mosaic panel - "Nariman Narimanov - playwriter" - in the opposite exit direction is displayed his specific expression "You can call the sacred lands of your ancestors a motherland, only if you own them". On the platform wall of this panel is a panel dedicated to theater, the main theme of which is the "crying and laughing" masks, which symbolize a theater.
In the cashier's halls, one side of columns is coated with black, while the other with white marble. The platform has 17 rhombuses made of white marble stripes.
The columns are reminiscent of the giant stalks of amber wheat, which, with its color and harmony, make the station look like palaces in fairy tales. The row of lights dipped in the ceiling gives an impression of a sky with gold stars scattered across it, thus amplifying its magnificence.
On the eve of the first European Games held in Baku in 2015, the station’s passageways were renovated in a new style in accordance with the overall composition, and the marble and granite cover of the walls and floors was changed. The renovated passageway walls are suitable for various mass exhibitions and demonstrations. On June 1, 2015, an exhibition of children's works was held here to promote fight against thalassemia and similar blood diseases, to encourage voluntary and regular blood donation, and to demonstrate the need and necessity for blood donors. Also, in October of that year, "World Artists" exhibition was held here. Exhibitions are held regularly here.
A fragment from a song “Gullerim”, composed by Arif Melikov, is played on the trains arriving at the station.

It is the hardest and deepest station of Baku Metro in terms of geological conditions. From here, the trains only move to “Jafar Jabbarli” station. According to the conceptual development scheme, as a result of the completion of the Green Line the station will be connected to the beginning of the Green Line, the "Nizami-Darnagul" area, in the future.
The station, named after the prominent Azerbaijani statesman, the great commander, the founder of the Safavid state Shah Ismail Khatai, was named after Stepan Shaumyan, one of the leaders of the 26 Baku Commissars during the Soviet period. It was located in Garashahar district of Baku, where the most important oil refining and other industrial enterprises were concentrated. Currently, the "White City" project is being implemented here and the area is becoming one of the most modern residential and commercial centers in the capital.
The facade of the two-storey building, which is decorated with networks enriched with architectural elements of the station with one entrance and exit, was decorated with the "M" logo. The lobby was built of limestone (travertine), and not of white stone like other similar stations in the post-Soviet era. This limestone is well polished and at the same time more durable. This solid milk-colored stone that turns brown, also pleases eyes with its beauty.
The station pylons were reminiscent of heavy stones. Covered in white and pink marbles, the pylon walls at approximately one-meter height were covered with black stripes. The entrance to the hall was a soffit element with a national pattern, and the floor was dark red. By creating a harmonious view with the ceiling lighting, the polished granite coating of the floor deepens and expands the middle hall.
The operation of the station, which was closed for reconstruction in the 1980s, was frozen during the difficult political and economic times of the early 1990s. As a result, the station was commissioned as a one-way area, and only one-way movement was organized from here.
At the station large-scale repairs were completed in 2008, while another line of “Jafar Jabbarli” station was put into operation and movement was opened along the “Jafar Jabbarli-Khatai” route. This significantly reduced the movement interval between the two stations.
Only after the "28 May-Jafar Jabbarly" passageway stations are fully functional and the Green and Red lines are separated; the station will begin to operate more effectively with the transport infrastructure principles of the Metro.
In 2014, under the order of the Chairman of the Baku Metro CJSC, a large-scale phased reconstruction was started on this route. At the first stage, major repairs and reconstruction works were started in the middle hall of the platform, the station road and the corresponding tunnel of "Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli" route. Although there were no restrictions on the use of the station during this period, the replacement of the expired escalators with new ones at the next stage of the works required the temporary closure of the station with only one entry and exit. The station, which was closed on September 27, 2018, was commissioned on September 12, 2019 with the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Three “LT-2” escalators were dismantled, and four new Victoria Tube escalators manufactured by German company Thyssen Krupp were installed at the station. For this purpose, the sloping road chamber has been adapted to the technical installation requirements of the four escalators, increasing the safety of passengers, the possibility of evacuation and convenience, as well as the level of service.
Necessary measures have been taken to overhaul the escalator's machine room and install new equipment. Along the sloping road, the tunnel's cast iron was cleaned of corrosion, measures taken to prevent leaks, and high-quality paints used to extend the lifetime and protect the structure from corrosion. Also, the upper and lower parts and reinforced concrete structures of the sloping road were inspected, appropriate measures were taken and strengthened, and floodplains were restored, leaks in the sloping road chamber were fixed, and the umbrella cover of the sloping road was renewed. The new umbrella, made of a special durable material, complements the aesthetic appearance of the escalators with a lighting system. In order to service the escalators, new stairs have been installed on the sidewalks along the sloping road from the engine room. Taking into account the arduous geological environment of the area where the station is located, special attention was paid to the use of reliable and durable materials during the repair.
The new escalators are distinguished by their functionality, with their speed meeting the requirements of world standards. They are economical, efficient, easier to operate and maintain, and allow for automated management.
The walls of the two-storey upper vestibule building, which is losing its stability, have the quality of their sawn stone partially lost, so they have been fortified with reinforced concrete shingles and covered with a metal structure. The natural polished travertine made in Nakhchivan was used during the lining works, ensuring the preservation of the architectural style and originality of the station, as well as its suitability for the geological environment and atmospheric influences.
The umbrella ceiling at the entrance was redesigned at the “Bakimetrolayihe” Institute and reconstructed using modern construction achievements following the recommendations of the Scientific Research and Design Institute of Building Materials named after S.ADadashov. High-quality, durable and long-lasting materials were used in the construction of the metal structure of the new umbrella ceiling. The new umbrella ceiling has been adapted to the aesthetic and architectural appearance of the station. At the entrance to the station, the metal grids, which are made in the form of national architectural elements, were cleaned of corrosion, painted with a special paint and installed back in their place.
One of the important issues was the restoration of artistic and architectural compositions dedicated to Shah Ismail Khatai and his work on the walls of the entrance vestibule and the middle hall of the platform. The non-compliance of the quality of the materials selected during the installation with the aggressive effects of the atmosphere made the architectural designs dangerous. Maximum restoration of the artistic and architectural composition has been achieved with the involvement of leading specialists in this field. The compositions have acquired a fresher look with the richness of national architectural elements and light effects.
The walls of the vestibule are coated with natural travertine and the floor with natural granite. Also, the stretch ceiling, modern lighting system, especially the round-shaped chandelier installed in the dome and the national pattern of ornament made the overall appearance of the vestibule brighter and more noticeable.
At the platform level, German-made 3D wall panels and galvanized ceilings were used. The floor and bottom of the walls are paved with natural granite in accordance with the requirements of metro construction technology. Thus, Khatai station has become one of the most unique and modern stations of the Baku metro.
During the repair period, 899 cubic meters of monolithic reinforced concrete, 47 cubic meters of precast concrete, 90 tons of reinforcement, 113 square meters of masonry, 637 square meters of plaster, 3545 square meters of insulation, 5259 square meters of painting, 4980 square meters of facing, 666 square meters of plasterboard and suspended ceilings were utilized.
Major works started in 2014 on the platform, sub-platform area, station road and road apartments have been completed. The tunnel wear was re-inspected, and all reinforced concrete structures were reinforced or rebuilt. Mortar works were carried out, spills prevented, cast iron tubing painted with a special anti-corrosion paint. A cover made of a special material was installed to prevent the negative impact of spills on the station road and the platform's umbrella. The sub-platform area has been completely reconstructed and adapted to the requirements of modern operation, technical standards and service sectors.
For the first time in the history of the Baku Metro, the station road was built of the most modern reinforced concrete blocks. For this purpose, the old roadbed was demolished and redesigned for the installation of reinforced concrete blocks. A total of 162 cubic meters of concrete was poured on the 149-meter-long station road.
The new road infrastructure, a product of the Baku Metro's own production area, serves to simplify operating conditions and reduce costs, facilitate maintenance and improve service quality. The new blocks are more durable, efficient and high quality than wooden sleepers.
All communication lines and equipment at the station have been updated. The centralization station and station attendant's rooms, which are important in organizing, managing and regulating traffic, have been reconstructed, and the control kiosk of escalators has been provided with video footage. A new video surveillance network has been established, information systems and passenger automation equipment have been installed.
The main and local water supply facilities located at the station and in the road section, as well as their control cabinets have been reconstructed in accordance with the requirements of modern times and the level of technological development. The wastewater disposal system has been fundamentally changed and updated. In this regard, the devices, pumps and new types of closed tanks guarantee a modern and, most importantly, the highest level of environmental friendliness.
The water junction has been completely reconstructed, with drinking and fire water lines separated.
The local ventilation system of the station has been reconstructed in accordance with modern requirements and with the application of technological innovations. The renovated technical and service rooms have been overhauled and provided with a centralized air conditioning system.
The station is equipped with fire protection systems, and the latest innovations have been applied in this regard. The new fire alarm system does not require constant maintenance and is resistant to long-term operation without exposure to complex atmospheric influences. As the sensitivity range is wide, it has an information system to take preventive measures. Taking into account all the advantages, the quality of fire safety has been significantly increased through the new system to the highest standards.
Reconstruction measures have been carried out along the “Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli” road. As there is no natural ventilation of the piston effect caused by the intensive movement of trains, additional measures were taken, and a ventilation pipe was laid in the connecting tunnel to increase the ventilation capacity. Reinforcement measures were carried out in the connecting tunnel, substation and road crossing tunnels with concrete solutions resistant to geological impacts. The metal insulation and tunnel jacket were reinforced with a monolithic reinforced concrete structure, additional protective measures were taken, and the back of the tunnel jacket was filled with concrete mortar.
In accordance with the norms and rules of construction, 266 cubic meters of B15, 8 cubic meters of B25, 20 cubic meters of B35, 227 cubic meters of B40 concrete mortar, 57 tons of reinforcement and 1.9 tons of metal were used in the tunnels.
The area around the station has been landscaped, a lighting system installed to complete the overall ensemble of the station complex, and greenery planted. In order to protect the station from rain, to divert streams, to collect water and to strengthen the protection from the effects of precipitation, a slope was installed, and other relevant measures were taken.
A fragment from Fikret Amirov's ballet "1001 Nights" is played on the trains entering the station.

Located in "Baki Soveti-Ulduz" area, it is the seventh station of the Red Line. It is the simplest, yet an interesting and original station of the Metro. The ceiling has light bulbs with saw-like stripes about a meter wide apart from each other. Each tooth of the "Saw" follows a pattern of chessboard. The white color of the ceiling increases the effect of the light bulbs on the edges of the "teeth", which brings effects of simplicity and breadth to the station, along with a touch of elegance.
The 32 columns in two rows, arranged along the platform, are distinguished by their originality and bring peculiarity to traditional architecture with their multifaceted features. The contact strip of each geometric face with the other is made of anodized aluminum, which makes the columns slenderer and more elegant.
The floor consists of black and green granite, scattered in non-standard sequences, with white marbles in between them. This decoration is designed on the basis of the patterns of the Azerbaijani carpet-weaving school. The track walls are made of marble and granite, which were cut in Dashkesen, and the seat is made of black granite. The architectural elements of the vestibules are more distinguished by their laconism. The walls and columns are decorated with the famous “Gazgan” marble of Uzbekistan. The floors are composed of granite slabs with white marble points.
The walls of the stairs are also covered with marble tiles. On one of the copper engravings ("toreutics") on the wall, was engraved the head of the socialist revolution V.I. Lenin's words, " the Soviet Rule of Communism plus electrification of the whole country", while the other had an image depicting a typical internationalist friendship of Baku’s workers. In general, the station's architecture embodies the traditions of Azerbaijan’s national architecture of the 1960s and 1970s.
The station has a special place in the history of the world metros. This station fell into the Guinness Book of Records, for the number of casualties in the undergrounds in the world. On October 28, 1995, a train blast killed about 300 people and injured 270. On the same day, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, a three-day mourning was declared in the country, the funeral expenses of those killed in the accident covered by the state and a compensation in the amount of one million manats provided to their families. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, dated November 3, 1995, Chingiz Adil oglu Babayev, the officer-teacher of the school named after J. Nakhchivanski, who showed special heroism and died during those events was named the National Hero of Azerbaijan after his death. The students of this school, Nijat Murvat oglu Safarov, Ruslan Mammad oglu Isayev and Samir Nadir oglu Mammadov were awarded the medal "For heroism" after their death. The bust of the national hero Chingiz Babayev was erected at the metro station "Ulduz" to commemorate his name. Every year on October 28, the metro employees visit Chingiz's bust at "Ulduz" station and place flowers in front of the monument.

The eighth station of the Red Line, it is within “Bakı Soveti-Koroglu” area. The station was named after Mashadi Azizbeyov, one of the leaders of 26 Baku Commissars. Lightweight and simple structures were used in the construction of the station. Prior to the reconstruction, the 32 columns, arranged in two rows, were coated with white-silver corrugated metal sheets. The track walls were made of dark marbles. The floor underneath the platform columns was made of light-colored marble, framed with winding black-striped granite.
This composition, which extends up to the cashier's hall, was complemented with Mashadi Azizbeyov's bust in the passageways. A pavilion consisting of stone and glass structures was built above the first lobby of the station in that direction.
In accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated January 28, 2010, the reconstruction works were launched and on December 30, 2011, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva, the station was put into operation with a completely different modern look.
Instead of the pavilion in the first lobby, a 20-meter glass and metal structure was installed above the station, which is named after the national hero Koroglu. For the first time in Azerbaijan, a modern multicolored luminous, energy-efficient LED lighting systems have been introduced in the lobby of glass and metal structures, using computer technology.
The entrance, lobby and track wall coatings were replaced with marbles and granites, produced in India and Bangladesh. All of the 32 columns of the passenger platform were half coated with marble and the other half with stainless metal. A suspended ceiling made of new materials was built in the station and equipped with modern lighting system.
In order to deliver passengers to the over-ground area of the station, “Tugela” escalators, manufactured by “Thyssen Krupp”, Germany, were installed on two lobbies - two in the area with glass and metal structure, and another one in the lobby leading to suburban trains. Modern equipment for cooling and heating meant for technological and service areas and water supply, as well as a new pump station, were built in the ground lobby. Another innovation introduced for the first time in Azerbaijan at this station is the vertical green wall built in the lobby.
A 112-meter long underground passage was built towards the station’s entrance on Mikayil Aliyev Street, which is one of the most intensive streets in terms of vehicles’ traffic on the ground. Although this underground passage was envisaged in the project during the USSR, it was revoked by the decision of the relevant government agencies. The length of the first and second tunnel built at the intersection of Heydar Aliyev and Ziya Bunyadov avenues is 140 and 65 meters respectively, both with 6 meters in width. The other stations and tunnels of the station have directional electronic boards and surveillance cameras that regulate pedestrians’ traffic.

The ninth station of the Red Line, it was opened in “Baki Soveti-Neftchiler" area. The station was named in honor of the “Avrora” ship, with its theme directly linked to this famous cruiser, which was a symbol of the October Revolution in 1917. The illuminating columns of the platform are in harmony with the light of the plafons, placed on the "network" element of the ceiling, which is covered with delicate patterns, creating a festive impression and thus elevating moods.
Engraved (“toreutics”) on the wall at the end of the underground lobby, the armed revolt, the silhouettes of V.I.Lenin and "Avrora" ship were the masterpieces of the theme. The walls in the opposite direction reflected the successes of Azerbaijan USSR in the years of the Soviet Rule.
After independence, the station was renamed after Gara Garayev, a world-renowned innovative composer. On the walls of the ceiling above the staircase of the station there is a canvas with his music.
In 2017, the station's passageways and ticket hall were renovated, with the piano buttons of white and black colors drawn on the walls, and a music key on the floor of the station.

It is the ninth station launched in the "Baki Soveti-Neftchiler" area of the Red Line. Named in honor of famous Baku oil workers, it was the last station of the mentioned area in the 1970s. Until 1989, this line served as a key transport junction, connecting the developing industrial areas of Baku. Behind the station road was built a two-lane sidestreet on both directions, which currently plays an important role in regulating traffic at rush hours.
The station walls are adorned with rich mosaic panels depicting the labour of Baku’s oil workers. Along both tracks are riveted silver columns in the center of the hall on the platform. On the ceiling, which is divided into squares, there are lamps that harmoniously emit soft lights throughout the station equally.
The floor is of colored and patterned granite, which creates an integrated composition with the columns and track walls. In 2016, the walls of passageway tracks of the station were renovated to meet modern requirements. On the passageway tracks are metal pannels that display the labour of oil workers, the historical role of Baku’s oil, the oil strategy of independent Azerbaijan and the historical value given by the national leader Heydar Aliyev to workers in this industry.
A fragment from a song "Dostlug" (also named as – “Neftchiler hagginda”), composed by Tofig Guliyev, is played on the trains arriving at the station.

The interior design of the station, named after the great Azerbaijani thinker, poet and philosopher Sheikh Nizami Ganjavi, used the best examples of national architecture. It is considered to be the most beautiful and delicate architectural station of the Baku Metro. At the depth of the middle hall of the platform of the one-entry station is Nizami Ganjavi's portrait painted on a mosaic panel in the background of the sun's rays. The walls of the side pylon are decorated with selective panels, based on the themes of Nizami's works. The passageways are illuminated from behind the networks, from the middle hall to the tracks.
Based on the themes of the poet's immortal "Khamsa", scenes from "Dara's Death", "Nushaba and Alexander", "Seven Scholars", "Alexander and Shepherd", "Artist Mani", "Fitna", "Bahram's bravery", "Bahram and Dragon", "Simnar's Tragedy", "Talk of the Owls", "The Tale of the Brick Man", "Sultan Sanger and Old Woman", " Khosrov and Shirin", "Farhad on Bisitun Mountain", "Farhad and Shirin", " Leyli and Majnun", " Majnun's father”, "On Leyli's grave" are depicted on 18 panels.
In 2016, the station's panels were redesigned without damaging the architectural design, and the corroded heavy angles were replaced with white plastic angles.
The marble covers on both sides of the track have been completely renovated and upgraded. The lighting construction in the middle hall has been successfully designed and adapted to the architecture. Attached to the ceiling over every pylon passage on the way to the station, each of the 9 semi-circular gold chandeliers has 10 rows, each with 5 lamps. Coming through these networks, the light rays transform the station into a world of fairy tales. The networks built into the pylons of the platform in the upper lobby’s facade partially cover the stained glass windows.
The entrance and exit building of the station lobby is also unique. Behind the station building stand out a mosque rostrum and a golden dome when watched from the opposite side of the road. This also resonates with the fact that Baku is the first in the Muslim East to have urban underground transport. There are three escalators that have been installed in this deep-level station.
A fragment from the romance composed by Uzeyir Hajibeyli to Nizami Ganjavi's "Sensiz" ghazal is played on the trains entering the station.

It is the only above-ground station of the Metro. The station is mainly located on the tracks of trains moving to the only electric depot of Baku Metro. From here, trains enter the metro line through "Narimanov" station, mainly running towards "Icherisheher" and "Dernegul" stations.
After the commissioning of the metro depot, a small platform-type stop was built for the metro employees working here.
The rapid development of industrial enterprises in the area in the 1970s made a major reconstruction of this station necessary too. At that time, according to the order of Heydar Aliyev, who was the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, a street by name ‘Khalglar Dostlugu Khiyabani’, now known as Alesgar Gayibov, was built. The establishment of a new road to Baku Household Air Conditioner Plant, which was constructed in Baku, not in Zaporozhe city of Ukraine in 1973 thanks to Heydar Aliyev's determination, became necessary to ensure the commute to and from the plant. On December 25, 1975, the Baku Household Air Conditioning Plant and the aforementioned street were inaugurated. Even the first tree on the dividing strip of the road was planted by Heydar Aliyev himself. The metro employees also played an active role in the construction of the plant.
In the late 1970s, a two-story station with a large lobby and "M"-type facade was built here. During those years, one platform-type stop with a small lobby was built as part of organizing the fork movement in the direction of "Narimanov" station -"Depo".
Trains used to operate only during rush hours, while the rest of the time, periodic routes during changes of work shifts were arranged in consultation with the management of local enterprises.
The train's schedule now takes into account the maintenance and repairs of trains, the needs of both the depot’s employees and the educational institutions in the area, as well as the interests of industry workers and those living there.
In consideration of the requirements of the academic year, schedules are adjusted twice a year (June-July and September), with the information about it posted at each of the stations through which trains run towards the depot, and on the official website of the Baku Metro (http://www.metro.gov.az/az/schedule).
The station was named "Bakmil" (Baku-Milan) in honor of the Azerbaijan-Italy joint venture, which was opened near the station in the years of independence. A pedestrian overpass was built on the south wing of the station, over the railway to the opposite side of the road.
As a result of the exposure to open air conditions and long-term operation, the infrastructure of the station failed to meet the requirements of the time and therefore. Therefore, a phased reconstruction was carried out as of August 2017, and on March 26, 2019, the sation was commissioned for use by passangers, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The repair and reconstruction were carried out in phases at this station, which has an entrance and exit on the second floor, in order not to interrupt its operation. Only in August 2018, during the final stages of the work, restrictions for passengers’ use of the station were imposed at certain hours of the day.
During the reconstruction, the main architectural appearance of the station was maintained and the facade renovated. To increase reliability, durability and longevity, the passenger platform was completely removed and replaced with a passenger platform made of monolithic reinforced concrete structures. The lounge of the platform was renovated and started receiving passengers right on the second floor - at the platform level. Therefore, the first floor became a service area only.
An open air track of the station is covered with an umbrella, which covers the entire track area along the platform and is important in terms of protecting passengers against rainfall.
All the communication lines in the station were completely upgraded, new fire safety technologies introduced, new suspended ceiling built, modern lighting and information systems and passenger automation equipment installed in the lounge. The railway of the station was reconstructed with concrete sleepers, and the facade reinforced, while maintaining the architecture untouched.
The first floor was 60 cm below the motorway, which in turn created unequal levels, making it difficult for the first floor of the station to be protected against rain. This issue was addressed during the reconstruction too. Besides, there has been landscaping work done around the station.
It is the only station of Baku Metro where no piece of music is played on trains entering the station.

"Elmlar Akademiyasi"

“Elmlar Akademiyasi”
Commissioning date: |
December 31, 1985. |
Address: |
Huseyn Javid avenue. |
Construction profile: |
deep-level, three arched ceilings, two rows, nine pylons. |
Length of tracks: |
100 m. |
Architect: |
M.Useynov, G.B.Rajabov. |
The station is located at a junction that connects the residential areas, which are located apart from the capital's center, to the city. Located near the major educational and scientific institutions of the city, and other government agencies, it is one of the metro stations with the highest passenger traffic. Its construction was carried out in complex geological conditions, by the method of liquid nitrogen freezing.
Interesting solutions were chosen in the architecture of the station. In the middle hall of the platform, in front of the each passage pylon to the train road, a white octagonal national architectural element is used on a dark gray granite floor. Inside it is another thin octagonal geometric figure. The whole middle hall is made of two parallel white stripes in front of the pylon. The interior stripes in front of the pylon walls combine with two more vertical stripes, giving the station a more flexible grand palace effect.
Metal ornaments, decorated with national ornaments on pylon passageways, join together on the ceiling to create an elliptical lighting network. This lighting gives the station a depth effect of palace passageways of ancient times.
For many years, the station had only one entry and exit, which caused passenger traffic at the station during rush hours.
The second entry and exit of the station were built under the State Program for the Development of Baku Metro for 2011-2015, approved by the Decree dated March 18, 2011 by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Four exits are located at the directions of Baku State University, the National Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, on Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh Street, and at the Institute of Technology and Radiation of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, on Metbuat Avenue, which makes the trip convenient.
The second entry and exit of the station, commissioned with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 28, 2015, consists of an underground lobby, 70.4 meters of a sloping tunnel, 37 meters of pedestrian and 26 meters of passageway tunnels, and a substation. The total area of the complex is 4,300 square meters.
Given the complex geology of the land stratum during construction, for the first time in the history of the Metro, the tested jet-grouting method was used, and the groundwork was carried out with the appropriate mechanism from Italy. Seven modern escalators manufactured by “Thyssen Krupp”, Germany have been installed here. Four of them are "Tugela" type escalators designed for shallow-level tunnels which are installed at the passageways, the other three are "Viktoria" type escalators designed for deep-level stations which are installed towards the pedestrian tunnel. The auxiliary rooms have all the facilities for the staff.
A structure with a modern decorative and architectural element was installed on the new entry and exit of the "Elmlar Akademiyasi" station, and landscaping works were carried out in the area. Since the end of 2015, the main lobby of the station has been repaired and reconstructed in accordance with the State Program. The main entrance of the station, which was closed due to the installation of new escalators since April 15, 2016, was upgraded to the modern standards while maintaining the original exterior and interior design. The three expired ET type escalators have been replaced by new, modern, more cost-effective and economical "Victoria" type escalators, manufactured and designed by "Thyssen Krupp", Germany for deep-level stations. Along with the lobby, the facade of the building located on the station and the adjacent areas have been repaired, constructed, renovated and restored.
The entry and exit gates have been replaced by more modern and comfortable analogues, and the front door network has been changed. The doors are made of stainless metal, the glass is covered with tempered laminate and is resistant to impact. Since the marble coating of the lobby and the escalator hall was expired and many elements of the granite floor lost their quality, they have been upgraded. For the first time in the Metro, yellow stripes were created from the tamet stones with a relief surface so that visually impaired passengers could easily determine their direction.
Also for the first time in the Metro a new type of ventilation system was introduced in the lobby, and the microclimate conditions were improved for one of the stations with the highest passenger flow. At the entrance of the lobby, "air curtains" were installed to regulate the temperature regime. The ventilation system was also used in the escalators machine room.
The ticket and escalator halls have a floor heating system which greatly improved the working conditions of the service staff during the winter months.
The architectural style of the station is fully preserved, and the gypsum ornaments on the walls of the entrance arch from the ticket hall to the escalator corridor are replaced with marble analogues. The reconstruction was carried out by preserving the decorative patterns in the part where the columns are connected to the ceiling and window system framework of the station, which were designed in accordance with national architecture.
The lighting system in the ticket hall has been remodeled and a modern crystal chandelier is hung. LED lamps have been installed at the entrance of the station, in the escalator hall and on the balustrades of escalators. Previously used as the ticket office and other auxiliary rooms have been completely renovated, brought to a more aesthetic appearance in a modern design and adapted to the requirements of the business environment. A modern boiling room was built in the technical area of the station to heat the lobby and the six-storey administrative building on it. Two thermal boilers, each with a capacity of 500,000 kcal, fully heat the entire floors of the administrative building. In summer months, normal indoor air conditions in the premises are provided by central air-conditioning, rather than separate air conditioning in previous years.
Air conditioners that damaged the exterior appearance of the building have been removed, and the old windows have been replaced by modern ones. Upon completion of the repair and reconstruction works, landscaping was carried out in the areas around the station. A green stripe was laid on the exit side separating the pedestrian path from the carriageway, and asphalt was paved around it. The main lobby of the station was reopened on September 15, 2016.
A fragment from Telman Hajiyev’s “Telebe” song is played on the trains arriving at the station.

The stations and tunnels were built under complicated geological circumstances. During the construction of the tunnel from the "Elmlar Akademiyasi" station, an unexpected and incredibly forceful flow of water came in. It has been the biggest and the only avalanche occurring in the construction of the Baku Metro. The tunnel under construction and the equipment were completely buried in the avalanche and the construction works were then carried out according to a new plan. The construction was continued through the application of liquid nitrogen freezing to the water flow at the accident site. For this reason, the station was named in honor of the bravery and dedication of the construction workers of the metro. In 2015, both passageways of the station were renovated with a new design. The escalators in the second lobby of the station were outdated, their replacement took place since January 18, 2016. The three ET-type escalators were replaced with two “Tugela” escalators manufactured by “Thyssen Krupp”, Germany. A stone staircase was built in place of the third escalator and the lobby, which was closed due to construction, was put into passengers' use on June 1 of the same year. Then, the works were launched in the first lobby to replace the three outdated "ET-5" escalators with new ones. "Tugela" escalators, manufactured by “Thyssen Krupp”, Germany, were installed on the sloping course that was closed for passengers' entry and exit as of January 23, 2017. On April 18 of the same year, the first lobby began to receive its passengers with a completely updated view. The escalators' machinery hall and cashier's hall of the lobby were completely renovated, and the marble-granite coating changed. During the repair, new automatic checkpoint booth and equipment were installed at the checkpoint and a special area in front of the former cashier's hall was built to host “BakıKART” top-up terminals in such a way as to ensure uninterrupted passenger traffic. A strip made of tamet stones with a raised surface was applied over the entire area, both from the entrance to the escalators and from the escalators to the exit door, so that visually impaired passengers could easily determine their direction.

The station was formerly named after the square located above the station in honor of the 11th Red Army, which was actively involved in the establishment of the Soviet Rule. There was also a monument constructed in the square in honor of the 11th Red Army.
When the Soviet Rule was collapsing, Soviet troops entered Baku on the night of 19th -20th January,1990, committed a massacre in the name of restoring stability in the city. These bloody events became a turning point, accelerating Azerbaijan's steps towards independence.
After independence, the station was renamed "20 Yanvar" in remembrance of those events.
On the walls of the station's cashier's hall are inscribed the names of the victims of "20 January" bloody event and the terrorist act committed at the station, along with the corresponding thematic compositions.
The ceiling of the platform is made of interchangeable rectangular and circular boards. The flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan is inscribed on the circular boards, while the rectangular boards are carved with the events occurring that night:
- Azerbaijani people will never forget January 20th martyrs;
- Martyrs sowed the seeds of freedom into soil with their dead bodies;
- The heroism of our martyrs, and their spirit will always live in our hearts;
- We are proud that we have martyrs who died for the sake of freedom;
- The most sacred and eternal monument to the martyrs of January 20th is the independence and freedom of our people.
On the rectangular boards, in between these expressions, a pair of carnations is engraved on a white board with a red background.
Arranged in rows along the ceiling, these boards are surrounded by rectangular lights on each side.
The floor of the station is covered with a white marble stripe in parallel to these boards, which logically complements the overall composition. On the metal boards along the station's track walls are engraved drawings of the eternal torch monument erected at the Alley of Martyrs.
The columns of the platform all the way from the bottom up are designed in such a way that they were carved twice, with the lower part of the columns seeming small.
The part that joins the ceiling opens in the form of a national ornamental grip, as if puncturing the ceiling. Since three ET-5 type escalators in the first lobby of the station were expired, they started to be replaced since July 1, 2016. They have been replaced by a two-row “Tugela” escalator manufactured by “Thyssen Krupp”, Germany. A stone staircase was built in place of another escalator. On November 8 of the same year, the first lobby with new escalators was reopened for passengers’ entry and exit. Two “Tugela” escalators were installed here, and a stone staircase was built in place of the third escalator.
During the same period, the marble-granite coating of the floors and walls were renovated, and turnstiles, electrical equipment and lighting systems were upgraded in the first lobby. The commemorative boards on the walls with the names of innocent victims of January 20, 1990, and those killed in the terrorist act, commited on March 19, 1994 at this station, were redesigned.
In general, the station has become one of the symbols of independence. On the night of the bloody January, the Metro employees played a special role in preventing the larger scale of brutality of the Soviet army. As a result of heroism demonstrated at that night, thousands of people were saved from becoming innocent victims, the first aid was delivered to the injured, who were hospitalized from here. Besides, Metro was the only shelter for people who ran away from the bullets and persecution.
Every year on January 20, the National Day of Mourning is commemorated at this station in a special way. The night before the day of commemoration, the platform is embellished with carnations arranged in a special literary and artistic composition. Throughout the day at the station, the employees of Metro guard this composition. At 12:00pm, the Metro management holds a minute’s silence at the station. All the trains on the tracks are brought up at the stations to sound their whistles for a minute. On January 20, all stations are decorated accordingly, and the corresponding music tracks are played. The bloody events at " 20 Yanvar" station are not limited to those which happened on the day the station was named after. On March 19, 1994, at 1:00 pm, an explosion occurred on the first carriage of the train while in halt at the station. As a result of the terrorist attack,14 people were killed and 49 injured. Rafig Babayev, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, was among those killed. The boards dedicated to the victims of that terrorist act are displayed on the wall of the station's cashier's hall.
A piece of national mugam "Bayati Shiraz" is played on the trains arriving at the station.

It is one of the last two stations to be opened in the area of "Baki Soveti-Ahmadli" during the Soviet Rule. The inauguration happened at the time when national conflicts were flaring up during the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Soviet and Republican leaders renamed the station “Khalglar Dostlugu” (Friendship of Peoples) on the anniversary of the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan, as if correcting the socio-political and social events of that time, and demonstrating their desire to restore processes that were clearly not on the way.
The station is distinguished with its original style of architecture, with the multifaceted columns of white marble closely related to the traditional architecture. Each face of the column is joined to the other by a deep-seated aluminum strip, making the columns more vertical. The shape of an opening flower of the columns resting on the circular element of the white ceiling makes an impression of eternity through the white sky on the ceiling.
The circular ceiling hooks are joined to each other with giant white stone logs. The bulbs, deep-seated inside the circular gold ring on the ceiling, create a cosmic impression, making this view even more magnificent. Between each ceiling ring with bulbs are two columns, which are complemented by another three white stone logs placed along the width of the ceiling. These stone logs extend right up to the track wall of the station.
The columns of bulb rings complement the entire composition of the granite cover of the floor with their roses. While illuminating, this look gives an impression of spaciousness with its brightness and golden-orange effect. By transiting to the milky white color towards the station's tracks, this illumination combines the dreams of the world of the two fairytales. Dark granite and light-color marble were used in the coating work. The marble layer of the station's track walls is decorated with golden elements to complement the theme, which in turn serves to complement the overall theme and color patterns.
There are two escalators of ET-5M type in one of the two exits from the platform to the lobby. On the eve of the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, the passageways of the station underwent major repairs.
A fragment from Tofig Guliyev’s “Eziz dost” song, featured in “Bakhtiyar” movie, is played on trains arriving at the station.

It is the last station commissioned during the Soviet Union in the area of Baki Soveti-Ahmadli.
The station's architecture is simple and compact. But in this simplicity, there is also the harmony with the history of the location of the station. The rectangular columns are covered with white marble and brown granites. As if the minarets of the mosque have taken over the load of the ceiling.
The floor is covered with gray granite framed by white marble stripes. Drawn along the columns, the white marble strip starts at the side of each column and moves towards the center and intersects under the rectangle in the middle between columns, thus continuing throughout the entire station with its unique hexagon.
Track wall coverings are completed at a slightly higher level than the train level. The composition of hexagonal intersecting stripes on the floor continues more delicately on the wall with light grey marble, in keeping with the traditions of the Azerbaijani carpet school.
"Hazi Aslanov" station was the last one until it was commissioned. For this reason, a special passage was built in front of the station, which made it possible to bypass the construction of a traditionally expensive two-way corner. As a result, it was possible to accept and depart trains on both routes. However, both roads were used only during busy hours. The rest of the time, only one of the roads was in operation.
A fragment from the composer Tofig Guliyev’s “Baki” song is played on the trains arriving at the station.

This is the last station of the Red Line to have been commissioned so far. The station is named after Hazi Aslanov, the glorious son of the Azerbaijani people, twice the hero of the Soviet Union. The station went down in history for having inauguration twice. The official inauguration ceremony of the station that received its first passengers on December 10, 2002 was held on July 7, 2003.
The construction of the station began in the 1980s but was halted during the crisis years of the 1990s. Since the construction of the station was completed thanks to 4.5 million Euros allocated by the European Union, authorized representatives of the organization were invited to the official inauguration ceremony. The Azerbaijani government incurred the remaining costs for construction work, allocating 5.5 billion manat for the construction work. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Artur Rasi-zade, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Margherita Boniver, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, and Michele Lake, the Deputy Directorate-General of the European Commission.
Three “ET-5 M” type escalators were installed in one of the exits of the station and two in the other. The station is designed with minaret-shaped rectangular columns, which is in line with national architectural traditions. The thickness of the columns gives the station a magnificent effect, which is typical of palaces. The columns in two rows lie under the ceiling, as if taking on all its weight. In general, embodying the atmosphere of the period of independence, the station differs significantly from the stations built in previous years. However, the overall complex approach has been retained.
Gray marble and black granite manufactured in Iran were used in the flooring works. The granite panels were used on the border strips of the station's track walls. Placed between the metal networks and giving the ceiling a special effect, the lanterns are reflected in the gray coating of the floor, magnifying the effect of greatness. This view is further beautified with the rhombic stripes of white marble in the floor area between the columns.
The breadth of the lobbies is complemented by their hall shape. There is a plaque indicating that the completion of the station was funded by the European Union, along with its flag on the wall of the staircase ceiling.
A fragment from the piece of music "Ay ishiginda", composed by Gambar Huseynli, is played on the trains arriving at the station.

The station complex, which was inaugurated by President Ilham Aliyev, is 310 meters long, has a depth of 15-18 meters, and a passengers’ platform of 102 meters long and 38 meters wide. The lighting system of the platform is made of lights scattered from the lattice plafonds placed inside the octagonal star, using national ornaments. Also, a mixed network of lamps placed at the edges of the inner corners of the star is reflected on the floor, giving the station a depth effect.
On the floor there is a network of large brown and milky granite-marble elements bordered by a black stripe. The light reflected on this mosaic floor enhances the grandeur of the station. Starting from the average height, 5 parallel black stripes on the track walls of the light-brown coating, deepen the overall theme composition, making the station even more attractive. The lower layer of the columns is made of blurred white marble and is divided into two equal parts in the middle with a metal frame. The upper part of the marble floor is made of metal mesh, as if taking over the ceiling beams through a multi-faceted support. Lamps mounted on the ceiling at equal distances from the columns to the track wall make the overall look more colorful, enhancing the effect of a bright world in the sky. The system of computer control of trains’ traffic in Baku metro was first applied at the duty point of this station. An escalator is installed at one exit of the station, and marble stairs are installed at the other.
A fragment from the folk song "Gul achdi, bahar oldu" (Translated as “Flowers blossomed, and Spring came”) is played on the trains entering the station.

"Azadlig prospekti"
Opened 30 December 2009
Commissioning date: |
December 30, 2009. |
Address: |
Intersection of Binagady road and S.S.Akhundov street. |
Construction profile: |
column-less, single-ceiling, arched platform. |
Length of tracks: |
102 m. |
Architects: |
Elbay Gasimzade, Magsud Mammadov and Zaur Gurbanaliyev. |
The first station with column-less platform in Azerbaijan, "Azadlig prospekti" is the second station in the complex of three stations and a depot, which was designed and started to be constructed in 1989 in the Soviet time in the northern area of the third construction shift of the metro in the capital city.
Since the ground rocks on which the station is located are mainly limestones, it was possible to build it in the shape of an arched platform without columns. The station is located at a depth of 14 meters.
Although launched in the Soviet time, the excavations were halted by geopolitical events in the country and the Allied Republics gaining their independence. The construction works were resumed in 2006 and completed in 2009, following the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s instruction and budget allocation of about 600 million manats for the construction of the underground.
With a total length of 297 m, the station consists of a passenger platform (10 m wide, 102 m long), two lounges, the main ventilation chamber, turning chamber, two underpasses and four entrances and exits.
The facilities brought from Turkey, Russia, Germany and other countries were used in the installation of internal systems of the station.
Opened with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the station is of a particular importance in terms of improving the road-transport complex towards the northern residential areas of the capital. For the first time, a new above-ground substation of power, which was built according to a particular plan, was commissioned for electricity supply to the station.
Through its modern-style construction, the station stands out with its aesthetic appearance, thus adding new architectural elements to the school of architecture in the construction of underground stations. An emphasis was made on modernity and traditions of national architecture during the construction at the station. So, the unique architectural monuments of our country are exhibited on the panels. Large-scale ornaments and decorative elements were applied in proportion to the total size of the main hall. Along with the skillful use of the national architectural elements in the station, the platform seats have been made of durable materials.
For the first time in the Metro, the touchscreen interactive survey kiosks and automated reloading machines of travel pass cards in the lounges have been installed at this station. After selecting one of language options (Azerbaijani, English and Russian) on the display of kiosks, a passenger is provided with detailed information about the duration of travel, passageway stations, and premises around the final station.
"Azadlig prospekti" started to receive passengers a year after "Nasimi" station was commissioned. Thus, for the first time in the history of the Metro, stations were commissioned one after the other in two consecutive years. This station was also the first to use three "Tugela" escalators, designed by "ThyssenKrupp", Germany, for shallow-level stations, in the history of Baku Metro.
The installment of a centralized database system, lighting, safety and security systems, which was another novelty in Baku Metro, was started in this station.
Another technological innovation was a significant decrease in the number of communication equipment thanks to the rail circuits without intersections and the use of small-sized equipment. New devices allow to immediately detect and troubleshoot errors. Based on the latest technologies, the equipment that ensures the movement and safety of trains was also distinctive excellence at that time.
A fragment from the national dance "Jangi" is played on the trains arriving at the station.

Although the construction began in 1989, as a result of the political processes in the USSR, the construction was frozen and in 2006 it was restored by a budget allocation of about 600 million manats.
On the area of 10.2 hectares covering the ground area of the station, the opening of which was held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, a new park was built, landscaping and gardening was done, a sewage system for flood waters was built, water pipe was laid, and irrigation system was established. 34 seats were installed for the residents' rest, 120 lighting poles for the outdoor lighting system, and asphalt was laid. 10 kV substation provides the station with electricity.
It is the second station of Baku Metro with column-less platform. The total length of the station complex is 1548, and the total length of the station complex is 302 meters. Information monitors are installed at the station's entrances. There are two underground passages and four entrance and exits to the station.
The station, built in the modern style, draws attention with its artistic and architectural design. The architectural traditions of Azerbaijan were considered in the design of the ornaments of the platform floor and road walls, and new drawings were brought to the national architectural school of metro construction, founded during the Soviet era.
The almond-shaped design of the sides of the station platform seats makes it even more marvelous. Imported from Ukraine, Turkey and India, natural marble and granite were used in the coating works at the station. The column-less arched passenger platform is illuminated by panels assembled with a German-made aesthetic hanging ceiling system.
A SOS alarm system in Baku Metro was first launched at this station. The video surveillance system, which fully covers the tunnels and stations and is transmitted directly to the server center, was first introduced here. Three Tugela escalators, manufactured by "Thyssen Krupp", Germany, were installed at the station to get from the platform to the cashier's hall. The modern electronic interval clocks were first installed on this station's platform. A fragment from Vasif Adigozelov’s “Baki” song is played on the trains arriving at the station.
