The Baku Metro is among the world's leading metros in terms of sanitation, hygiene, and cleanliness. Even though it is already considered one of the cleanest modes of transportation from an ecological perspective, significant efforts are being made to elevate these requirements and standards to a new level of quality. The organizational level, scale, and approach of the work being done clearly demonstrate this.
“Green support” for the ecological environment
Afforestation efforts are organized in a planned manner throughout the year, encompassing both current and fundamental measures. Care and control mechanisms for green areas are implemented daily. In this regard, the "Narimanov" electric depot, which has turned into an island of greenery in recent years and significantly altered the ecological environment, now includes two large and four small parks, service area surroundings, portals, freight yards, the vicinity of the "Bakmil" station, the administration building, station and facility areas, and the "Bilgeh" health center area, now expanded with the "Khocasan" electric depot's vast territory.
At the "Narimanov" electric depot alone, care for over 2,000 trees and various flowers and shrubs is carried out according to the seasonal requirements. In 2023, the third park area saw the planting of 2 fir trees, 14 Eldar pines, 3 lemon balm plants, various rose bushes, jasmine, etc., totaling 673 trees and shrubs of 11 types and laying 40 square meters of lawn.
The "Khocasan" electric depot is transforming into a green zone with nearly 1,500 trees and hundreds of flowers and shrubs. This area, once a swamp filled with sewage, domestic, and industrial waste and a source of diseases due to its ecologically unsuitable conditions, is now undergoing a renewal process according to the depot's design. The sharp smell and odor have been completely eliminated from the area. In May 2023, a tree planting campaign was organized in connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, with the participation of the Yasamal district organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, where 200 olive trees were planted according to the seasonal and soil characteristics of the area. To protect the olive trees from the wind, 15 concrete-encased iron pipes were used to install 300 meters of protective fencing. Additionally, a green zone with 5 more olive trees and 14 fir trees, totaling 21 trees and shrubs, was created in the depot area.
During the "Heydar Aliyev Year," a children's entertainment and sports playground zone was established near the "Neftchilar" station in the mine area, where approximately 100 trees and shrubs, including 45 plane trees, were planted, and greenery was laid. A squad has been assigned for its daily care. Afforestation works continued around the "Bakmil" station throughout the year. Here, 175 square meters of lawn were planted, and trees in the area received agronomic care. At the "Narimanov" electric depot, a 40 square meter grass-covered area was created in front of the Security and Fire Safety Service building.
Additionally, in 2023, within the "Green Island" decorative plant corner at the "Koroglu" station, 35 climbing jasmine and 15 decorative roses were planted, and trees were planted in the area of the "8 November" station, with 9 evergreen boxwoods and 40 square meters of grass-covered area established in the palm tree zone at the entrance to the "Elmler Akademiyasi" station. A 112 square meter grass-covered area was created in the area of the "20 January" station. At the second exit zone of the "28 May" station, 13 new shrub trees were planted, and a 130 square meter grass-covered area was established.
The cleanliness of the wagons as a measure of standard
The cleaning of wagons is carried out as they enter technical inspection during the night stops and daytime. During the shift, with 30-33 trains in the current washing area, approximately 23,000 train cleanings were conducted in 2023. In the repair area, 1-2 trains per day, totaling approximately 1,000-1,400 trains, were cleaned and handed over throughout the year.
Approximately 212 trains are cleaned daily in the newly reconstructed blowing chamber. From November, a shift work system was also established here, and according to the schedule, 7 trains per week, totaling 61 trains, were washed, and the undercarriage parts were blown clean.
After the complete reconstruction of the washing area, the quality of work has improved. From the washing platform, approximately 2,190-2,920 trains are processed annually.
In the purple line, 6 trains are washed twice a week. In total, 572 trains were cleaned, washed, and handed over in 2023 in this area.
At the "Khocasan" electric depot, after repairs, approximately 52-104 trains are cleaned annually by the wagon washers, both inside and outside.
The service laundry ensures the washing of special work clothes. Throughout the year, clothes from all service areas located in the "Narimanov" depot area were washed and dried. In the summer, bed and bathroom sets, kitchen and room covers from the "Bilgeh" health center were washed and handed over.
