Baku Metro is a public urban passenger transport system connecting underground railway lines in Azerbaijan.

Taking into account the geological conditions, metro stations were built in and island type, consisting of four types of structures. One of the stations is outdoors above the ground. Seven out of eight deep-bottomed stations have an arched ceiling. Of the 16 shallow-bottomed stations, three have a single-pitched ceiling and 13 have columns.
20 stations are equipped with escalators, two with elevators and one with a travelator. There are 115 escalators of five types and eight travelators operating at the stations. The length of the Red Line of the Metro ("Icheri Sheher-Hazi Aslanov") is currently 18.80 km and has 13 stations. The Green Line (“Khatai-Darnagul”), the first station of which was commissioned in 1968, is 15.54 km long and has 10 stations. On April 19, 2016, the first two stations of the 3rd - Purple Line ("Avtovagzal" and "Memar Ajami") were commissioned. Next stations of this line opened on May 29, 2021 (“8 Noyabr”) anda on December 23, 2022 (“Khojasan”).
At present, the metro has two transit stations. The Red and Green lines intersect at “28 May” and “Jafar Jabbarli” stations, and the Green and Purple lines at “Memar Ajami” stations. Trains consisting of 5 carriages each run in the Baku metro Green and Red lines. The stations of the Purple Line are designed for 7- carriage trains.
The fare for all metros is set at a single rate of 0.40 AZN.
The way to pay for the subway is the “BakuCard” and QR ticket systems.
The average share of metro transportation is about 30 percent compared to the total urban passenger transportation.
