New Damping Systems Installed in Six Stations

09 JUNE / 2023 / 13:00

In line with modern requirements for improving microclimate conditions in the stations and tunnels of the Baku Metro, the process of installing dampers continues as a significant measure. According to the plans for 2022-2023, alongside ventilators, 6 dampers have been installed. These dampers, measuring 2 meters in height and 2.5 meters in width, have been set up in the shafts of the "Azadliq Prospekti," "Xalqlar Dostlugu," "Neftchilar," "Narimanov," "Ganjlik," and "Ahmadli" stations.
The structurally simple dampers play a crucial role in regulating natural air flow and ensuring its proper direction, also enabling extensive use of these capabilities. The application of these devices, which enhances the positive direction of the microclimate environment in stations and tunnels, commenced in 2019.
It should be noted that dampers are essential elements in maintaining natural ventilation and oxygen levels within normal limits, creating a suitable bio-environment in underground stations and tunnels. The operating regime of dampers is integrated with the system of powerful ventilators providing artificial ventilation and is controlled from the dispatcher center. Depending on the schedule and atmospheric conditions, when the operation of ventilators is paused, the dampers automatically open. This ensures the efficient distribution of air masses entering from shafts and generated by the movement of trains.
In this context, the technical details of products from leading global companies have been studied and applied in a format suitable for the specifics of the Baku Metro. To date, 15 dampers have been installed on the Green and Red lines. For comparison, on the Purple Line, these systems were considered during the design phase and are currently in operation. Currently, 86 dampers are in service on this line.
In the future, the installation of dampers will be applied in all shafts.
