3 New Trains, 467 Repairs, and 4215 Inspections Highlight Recent Developments

In 2023, aligning with its service plan, Baku Metro undertook the modernization and medium repair of two train sets. One of these trains has already been launched into operation, with the other currently undergoing adjustments. It’s notable that three of the four trains delivered towards the end of 2022 were commissioned during this reporting period after adjustment and testing, increasing the total number of new generation wagons in the Baku Metro to 115 and train sets to 23. Considering that 40-46 routes are operated on the Red and Green lines daily, 40-50% of the trains in service throughout the day belong to this new generation.

Excluding the overhaul repairs, current and lifting repairs of trains, depending on their type, were carried out in depot conditions according to standards. Specifically, the 81-717/714 series underwent the Type 3 current repair on 7 wagons. Additionally, Type 2 current repairs were performed on 40 wagons, and Type 1 on 305 wagons, following the mileage norms. This series of wagons underwent 4130 technical inspections throughout the year.

For the new generation, namely the 81-760/761/763 and 81-765/766 series wagons, there was no need for Type 1 lifting depot repairs according to regulatory requirements. However, Type 1 periodic repair works were conducted on 75 wagons, and Type 2 on 40 wagons, with a total of 385 technical inspections carried out on this type of wagons.

The reporting year was significant in terms of improving labor and repair capabilities within depot conditions. Primarily, ensuring the regular return of trains, operating 12-20 hours on the line, to the depot for inspection according to standards has been a focus. The increased frequency of trains on the lines in recent years has led to more entries and exits to the depot. Consequently, the reconstruction of inspection and service areas (gantries) has become a contemporary necessity. Additionally, modernizing the electric depot, in operation since 1967, to meet current standards and incorporate modern technological innovations is crucial. Notably, in 2023, five repair and inspection areas were thoroughly renovated and reconstructed, effectively modernizing half of the depot's 30 repair and inspection areas. This has largely eliminated problems by facilitating on-site service and maintenance without additional maneuvering, thanks to ensuring the appropriate depth in a proper manner. The establishment of communication systems that comply with ecological standards, as well as modern electrical supply, lighting, and the use of switching systems for receiving and dispatching trains, has been implemented at the highest modern requirements level.

The creation of a new area within the existing infrastructure for repairing and inspecting new generation trains has begun in the depot. Last year, six hydraulic devices were installed, enhancing the inspection and maintenance capabilities for new types of wagons. Additionally, 220 helium-type battery accumulators were procured and installed for the power supply system of the 81.717-714 series wagons.

To meet annual needs, ten sets of wheels and equipment for preparing filters for the new generation wagons' air conditioning systems were purchased. A professional group specializing in the maintenance and repair of the train's air conditioning systems has been formed, establishing a respective area within the depot where all infrastructure necessary for labor conditions and technical safety has been established.
