During the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29), volunteers have started their activities within the Baku Metro. As part of the COP29 Operations Company project, 100 selected volunteers are providing services at 10 metro stations.
All organizational matters, including volunteer training and instruction, have been fully arranged. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure passenger satisfaction and facilitate the safe and comfortable use of metro transport for COP29 participants.
The volunteers will operate on a rotational basis at 10 metro stations until November 22. These stations include "Koroğlu" and, on the Red Line, "İçərişəhər," "Sahil," "28 May," "Gənclik," and "Nərimanov"; on the Green Line, "Nizami," "Elmlər Akademiyası," "İnşaatçılar," and "20 Yanvar."
The volunteers will assist foreign passengers and those less familiar with the Baku Metro by providing information about accessing COP29 venues and other essential details. Their main responsibilities include educating passengers on the use of the metro, passenger rights and responsibilities, fare acquisition and payment, and other key regulations. Additionally, the volunteer program includes guiding passengers to the city’s rich cultural heritage, particularly historical, cultural, and social sites, as well as recreational centers near metro stations.
To enhance the efficiency of volunteer operations and help passengers easily identify and approach them, information kiosks have been set up at the specified stations.
Throughout their tenure, the volunteers will work as part of a unified team with metro staff, gaining valuable experience. This collaboration will also help them familiarize themselves with metro operations, potentially benefiting their future career development.
