On October 31, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited the new generation metro trains assembled in Baku by "Baku Metro" Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC).
According to AZERTAC, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, and the Chairman of "Baku Metro" CJSC, Zaur Huseynov, provided detailed information about the trains to the Head of State.
It was noted that under the contract between "Global Transport Solutions" LLC and "Baku Metro" CJSC, a total of 65 new cars (13 train sets) are planned to be manufactured and delivered to the Baku Metro from 2024 to 2026. According to this schedule, 35 cars (7 train sets) will be produced in 2024, 20 cars (4 train sets) in 2025, and 10 cars (2 train sets) in 2026.
The "81-765 B/766 B" series train sets are classified as fourth-generation in terms of innovation. The cars are manufactured in accordance with the technical specifications of "Baku Metro" CJSC and are assembled locally. Unlike standard designs for other metro systems, these cars are equipped with advanced systems and equipment from leading European manufacturers that meet the highest technological standards. The specifications account for the complex terrain and technical requirements of the Baku Metro, as well as the city's climate and geological conditions. Emphasis has been placed on safety, reliability, longevity, efficiency, and other operational advantages.
Nine contracts have been signed with European manufacturers to ensure the direct delivery of equipment to Baku. As a result, the assembly and commissioning of the cars to meet high-quality standards is completed locally.
To facilitate the assembly, calibration, and testing of the new cars, a team of 54 specialists from the manufacturer has been sent to Baku. Each of the new generation trains is designed to accommodate 315 passengers in the head cars and 329 passengers in the middle cars. The head cars have 38 seats, while the middle cars have 44 seats. The train doors, measuring 1,400 mm, are 12% wider than those of the previous generation. Features include multifunctional zones for wheelchairs, bulky items, and strollers; microclimate control; video surveillance; interactive passenger information systems; USB ports for mobile devices; and unique lighting systems. The cars are hermetically sealed, providing soundproofing and thermal insulation. The inter-car connections allow passengers to move seamlessly between cars throughout the train.
Of the seven train sets delivered to Baku, five have been assembled, calibrated, and tested, while two additional trains will be operational by November 8.
President Ilham Aliyev inspected the interiors of the newly assembled train cars.
It was highlighted that, with the inclusion of these new trains, the total number of state-of-the-art cars in the Baku Metro's fleet has reached 150.
