It became necessary to replace the escalators that had exhausted their service life at the “Khatai” station of the Baku Metro, commissioned in 1968. Equipment and installations that are obsolete during the 50-year operational period must be brought to modern requirements, also it is necessary to update the floor and wall coverings of the station lobby, in general it is necessary to thoroughly reconstruct the station complex.
Infrastructure development, reconstruction activities are carried out at “Khatai” station and in the “Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli” interstation tunnel. At the first stage, completed in December 2016, the first line and the intermediate hall of the station, as well as the first line of the “Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli” interstation tunnel, were brought to the level of modern requirements.
Within the second stage of reconstruction works, the second line of the “Khatai” station and the second line of the “Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli” interstation tunnel are being repaired and updated. It is believed that the renewal of escalators, which have expired, as well as major repairs to the lobby and other infrastructure, is a continuation of this stage.
Preparatory measures for the replacement and repair of escalators in the lobby were started in February this year, and the action plan was prepared to ensure quality and timely implementation of the capital repair and reconstruction process.
During the repair period, 3 LT-2 escalators will be dismantled, which have been used at “Khatai” station since 1968. Instead of three old escalators of the LT-2 type, four new escalators of “Victoria Tube” type will be installed by German company “ThyssenKrupp Fahrtreppe”. Since the deep station has one enter/exit, the 4 escalators that will be installed will allow to regulate the passengers’ flow more comfortably and increase safety. It should be noted that during the reconstruction works at the stations "28May" and "Sahil", instead of three dismantled escalators, 4 analogues of a new generation were installed.
During the renovation of the escalators at “Khatai” station, the lobby will also be thoroughly renovated. Marble-granite wall and floor coverings that have exhausted their service life will be updated, and inclined walls of the passage and ceilings will be repaired in accordance with the requirements of the time.
In the forthcoming period, the reconstruction, overhaul and renovation of the second head track of the “Khatai” station and the second track of the “Khatai-Jafar Jabbarli” interstation tunnel will be completed.
Since the station of “Khatai” has only one entrance, it was necessary to close it during the repair period. Taking this into consideration, CJSC “Baki Metropoliteni” inform passengers that the “Khatai” station will be closed for entry/exit from September 29, 2018. Also, in the direction of "Jafar Jabbarli-Khatai "and vice versa, the movement of passenger trains will be suspended. All repair and restoration work is planned to be completed by August 10, 2019.
We notice passengers that in accordance with the agreement reached with the Baku Transport Agency, the movement of urban passenger bus routes, the last stop of which is at “Khatai” station and nearby areas, will be regulated towards the station “28 May” and other relevant directions. In this regard, the Baku Transport Agency will provide the public with additional information.
