Baku Metro CJSC and Metro Workers' Trade Union have organized a blood donation campaign as per the initiative of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva - First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation - in order to address the problem of reduced blood supply to children suffering from thalassemia and hemophilia, as well as leukemia, during the implementation of a special quarantine regime in the country due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Each donor was examined by hematologists of the professional medical staff of the Central Blood Bank, blood samples taken from them and an opinion given on their eligibility to join the campaign. Blood was taken from 64 donors in the campaign.
Medical experts told the donors about the purpose of voluntary blood donation for those suffering from blood diseases, saying that such a campaign was an expression of good will and that blood donation was useful for human health.
