Today, a series of measures are being taken in Azerbaijan to combat the new type of coronavirus ("COVID-19") pandemic. In accordance with the pivotal decisions and timely instructions and recommendations of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, important appropriate measures are being taken in our country to combat the virus and prevent its spread. The initiatives and appeals of the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, are a source of trust and confidence of every Azerbaijani citizen in this combat.
Among the measures taken by the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan to combat the virus are fateful decisions on the regulation of public transport. The reality today is that the COVID-19 virus is particularly dangerous to spread indoors, including in underground transport such as the Baku metro. With these threats taken into account, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan suspended passenger transportation in the Baku metro on March 31 at 22:00, and for 38 days the burden fell on the Baku Transport Agency as the main provider of public transport in the capital. Although trains resumed on the Baku Metro on May 9, passenger transportation on the Baku Metro was suspended from 00:00 on July 4 to 06:00 on 5 August.
These days, the main burden of public transport in Baku again fell on the Baku Transport Agency. In addition, the Baku Transport Agency is demonstrating undeniable service and dedication in the transportation of workers in order to regulate the activities of many important areas while the public transport in the capital is suspended due to the strict isolation measures applied in June and July. Among such enterprises is "Baku Metro" CJSC, which is distinguished by the variety of operating modes in many specific areas and operates 24 hours a day. If necessary, the Agency is happy to show its readiness to help the metro staff.
It is well known that providing uninterrupted operation of many administrative, production, industrial, economic and service sectors, and meeting the transport needs of the people in Baku, the capital city of the country, is very important these days. The continuation of life in a normal course, and ensuring the rhythm of work of socio-economic spheres, which are the pillars of the welfare of our country, also depend on the driving force of the transport sector.
The responsibility and weight of providing comfortable and safe transportation of people, as well as the organizational complexity of this work are very familiar to the staff of metro, which has a special place in the transport sector, and the metro staff understand how much effort and dedication it takes.
On behalf of the metro staff, we once again express our gratitude and moral support to the staff of the Baku Transport Agency, which, taking on the main burden of the urban public transport sector, is working selflessly, diligently and tirelessly to fulfill this task.
Today, it is a great honor for each of us to serve people who go from home to work and from work home. We have no doubt that the Baku Transport Agency, which has undertaken such a responsibility, has done so to the best of its ability and, most importantly, with openness. We must not forget to mobilize our forces and support each other in order to "win and be strong together" despite the obstacles and sometimes the complicated situation in many areas created by the pandemic. We are sure that together we will overcome these difficulties with confidence, respect and patience.
At a time when the Baku Metro is unable to serve passengers due to the special conditions dictated by the pandemic, but did its best to protect the capital's large infrastructure in the face of severe geological impacts, with its employees mostly using above-the-surface public transport, the we say "We are with you" and wish success to all the dedicated employees of the public transport sector, including Baku Transport Agency, who, despite being included in the risk group of the virus, are trying to provide exemplary service to their passengers with enthusiasm and dedication.
