The Escalator Service, which encompasses the maintenance of escalators, travelators, and elevators, is a prominent area in the Baku metro where innovations related to modern standards are particularly evident. Currently, the metro operates 115 escalators, 8 travelators (at the "Avtovagzal" station), and 16 elevators, including 8 in the underground stations of the Purple Line. All new generation equipment in use is of German manufacture, with 18 escalators (approximately 16%) being Soviet (Russian) made, and 97 (approximately 84%) manufactured in Germany.
However, the primary activity of this service is to keep the devices and equipment in constant working condition, ensuring maintenance and repair processes are carried out according to standards. At the same time, the service maintains regular contacts with manufacturers and specifically follows innovative developments in this field worldwide. In 2023, the escalators for the station conditionally named "B-04" were also brought to Baku. Representatives of the service participated in the trials of the finished products in Germany as part of their official trip.
Excluding the comprehensive repair of two escalators carried out by another structural unit, current tasks have included the renewal of the working chain of one escalator and the drive belts of the tightening devices of two escalators at the "8 November" station. The installation of 17 "S2 K 30" and "S20 K 431" varistors on 12 escalators was ensured in accordance with technological processes. The renewal of the tightening belts was also performed on one escalator at the "Inshaatchilar" station. At the "Avtovagzal" station, the main transmission electric motor bearings of one travelator, the entrance busbars of the working or idle paths of two escalators, and the radar sensor of one escalator were replaced.
At the "Azadlig Prospekti" station, thermal relays on the control boards of three escalators, the safety monitors of one escalator each at the "Elmler Akademiyasi" and "Icherisheher" stations, and two speed control devices for one escalator's rotation speed at the "Icherisheher" station were updated.
