Metro Workers' Children Perform an Eco-Play in Support of COP29 at "Icherisheher" Station

21 SEPTEMBER / 2024 / 12:44

As part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” initiative, an eco-play was performed at the "Icherisheher" metro station in support of COP29. The project, titled "Let's Think About Nature as It Thinks About Us," was organized with the support of ASAN Radio, involving the young children and teenagers of metro employees.
The main goal of the educational project is to call on the public to actively engage in maintaining a clean ecological environment and protecting nature for the sake of a green world. The play, consisting of six different scenes, featured dialogues from children highlighting facts and figures often overlooked yet familiar to everyone. The title of the play is taken from a poem by the famous poet Huseyn Arif, dedicated to nature. The scenes culminated in a chorus of children reciting the verse embedded in the play’s title: “Let us also think about nature, as it thinks about everything.”
The performance began with a monologue by one of the children, followed by a speech from the National Leader Heydar Aliyev about the importance of tree conservation. In the scene "The Conversation of the Trees," supported by Kindergarten No. 192, 10 children dressed in special costumes portrayed a forest. Two teenagers conversed with the trees, illustrating the benefits of plants with facts and figures. The trees spoke about the oxygen they produce, the carbon and radiation they absorb, and the other ways they help preserve the natural environment. The scene concluded with the symbolic performance of the 1956 song "Nature," composed by Musa Mirzayev and performed by one of the children, symbolizing the connection between children's joy and nature.
In the scene "Things We Don't Pay Attention To," the children depicted facts that are commonly known but often ignored, as conveyed in a forest setting.
The scene "Don't Destroy, Protect" took place against the backdrop of a metro station, where a teenager threw a plastic bottle on the ground, prompting three other children to protest. This led to a conversation among four children, emphasizing the environmental harm caused by plastic waste and the impact of littering on public health, calling attention to this danger.
In the scene "My Father Says...," metro workers' children shared what their parents had told them during a conversation, drawing attention to the environmental harm caused by transportation, supported by real statistical data. The children also highlighted that the metro is an environmentally friendly mode of transport, and mentioned the importance of metro employees' activities, such as tree planting, battery collection, and water-saving initiatives, stressing their public significance.
In the scene "If We Don't Protect Nature...," children recited Huseyn Arif's poems, urging attention to nature conservation and ecological problems. The scene ended with a chorus of children performing a song by People's Artist Tunzala Agayeva, dedicated to the protection of nature, accompanied by piano, violin, guitar, and percussion instruments.
The final scene, "The Road to COP29," featured the host addressing the children and concluded with remarks from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, regarding COP29.
The scenes from the play continued in flash mob format on escalator platforms and trains. In the coming days, similar performances will be staged based on the same script in the kindergarten that provided the costumes, as well as in several other educational and training institutions.
