An event dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at CJSC “Baki Metropoliteni”.
The ceremony participants honored with a minute of silence the bright memory of our compatriots who died during the Khojaly genocide and the martyrs who gave their lives for their Motherland.
Opening the event, Tarlan Dadashov, Head of the Department of Human Resources and Services, gave detailed information about the Khojaly tragedy and noted that this genocide was one of the most violent bloody crimes in the history of humankind. He also pointed to the facts showing that the Armenian armed forces killed civilians with particular cruelty, and subjected the captives to terrible torture, cruelty and insults. On that terrible night, 613 civilians were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. Of the 1,275 people taken hostage, the fate of 150 is still unknown. As a result of military aggression, eight families were completely destroyed. 25 children lost both parents, and 130 lost one of the parents.
Hidayat Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the CJSC, noted that the Khojaly genocide will never be forgotten, and that all Azerbaijanis should strive to turn the insidious actions of Armenians into objects of condemnation in the international community. “All the occupied lands of the Azerbaijani people will be freed from enemy oppression, and our compatriots will return to their homeland, but this genocide should not be forgotten,” said Mammadov, stressing the great work of national leader Heydar Aliyev on propaganda of genocide, which should be a model for each Azerbaijani. It was on his initiative that the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the first time gave a political assessment of this issue and work was started to bring this tragedy to the international community. The campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, in particular, the Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, plays a significant role in promoting this genocide at the international level. The list of countries that recognized this genocide is growing from year to year.
Arif Mardanov, Chairman of the Metro Workers' Union, said that the internal and foreign policy conducted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev and successful steps towards the disclosure of the Armenian invasion policy gave the results. “This act, committed not only against one nation, but against all mankind as a whole - is a serious war crime,” said A. Mardanov, stressing the importance of social activities and the role of young people in giving political and legal assessments on an international scale.
Speakers stressed the importance of the activities of every citizen, to save the memory of that terrible night, which left an indelible mark on our history.
CJSC “Baki Metropoliteni” is seeking to convey this act of genocide, as well as information about the territories occupied by the enemy to metro users. In this context, data that is regularly displayed at stations, in lobbies and on platforms, as well as on electronic metro monitors, can be mentioned.
