Today marks the 97th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, the architect and founder of the independent modern state of Azerbaijan and a prominent statesman.
This phenomenal figure, who left a lasting mark on the fate and history of the Azerbaijani people, is one of the few statesmen who became a legend in his life and conquered the political arena.
His contribution to the development of the republic during his leadership of Azerbaijan in the Soviet era was always felt in the metro. At that very time, there was a great revival in the construction of the subway, with new stations put into operation. When the great leader began to lead Azerbaijan, there were only 6 metro stations with a total of lines of 8.8 kilometers, but in the following years, as a result of his attention and care, another 21.1 kilometers of underground railways and 14 new stations were built.
"Baku Metro is a unique event in the centuries-old history of the Azerbaijani people" - these words of the great leader are a great historical appreciation of the Baku Metro. Despite economic difficulties during the years of independence, Heydar Aliyev spared no effort to support the development of the metro, the expansion of its fleet, strengthening its material and technical base.
The great leader called the metro a great wealth of the people: “Our citizens, in general, our people should know what a great and unique wealth our nation has.”
This wealth is inherited from our recent past to the independent state of Azerbaijan. But at the same time, this wealth has been created as a result of the great labor and determination of the hardworking people of the Azerbaijani nation and it has taken such a miraculous shape. Therefore, the Baku Metro is a national wealth of the Azerbaijani people. I can say that it is one of the most valuable assets."
Heydar Aliyev is a genius who made special contributions not only to the Baku metro, but also to the development of metros in the post-Soviet space during his years as First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers. Thanks to his leadership, his instructions and historic decisions, the industry of metro carriages, as well as equipment, machines and facilities for the construction of metro carriages in the USSR entered a new stage, along with significant steps taken to train new personnel.
Our appreciative people, including metro workers and metro builders, will always cherish the services and dear memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev in their hearts.
