The ninth station of the Red Line, it was opened in “Baki Soveti-Neftchiler" area. The station was named in honor of the “Avrora” ship, with its theme directly linked to this famous cruiser, which was a symbol of the October Revolution in 1917. The illuminating columns of the platform are in harmony with the light of the plafons, placed on the "network" element of the ceiling, which is covered with delicate patterns, creating a festive impression and thus elevating moods.
Engraved (“toreutics”) on the wall at the end of the underground lobby, the armed revolt, the silhouettes of V.I.Lenin and "Avrora" ship were the masterpieces of the theme. The walls in the opposite direction reflected the successes of Azerbaijan USSR in the years of the Soviet Rule.
After independence, the station was renamed after Gara Garayev, a world-renowned innovative composer. On the walls of the ceiling above the staircase of the station there is a canvas with his music.
In 2017, the station's passageways and ticket hall were renovated, with the piano buttons of white and black colors drawn on the walls, and a music key on the floor of the station.
A fragment from Gara Garayev’s “Seven Beauties” ballet is played on the trains arriving at the station.
